Floating Marginal Plants are the plants that grow along the edge of the pond and their stems and leaves float on the water surface. Most are rooted in a pot of soil submerged in the water garden but a couple are free floating.

Aquatic Mint (Mentha aquatica) is a true mint that thrives in shallow water. It has dark green leaves with tiny lavender flowers in late summer. Very aromatic and great mint flavor. Zone 6-11

Dwarf Red Stem Parrot Feather (myriophyllum ssp.) is a smaller, more compact form of the standard Parrot Feather. The dwarf form also has a dark reddish stem among the bright green feather shaped leaves. Zone 6-11

Parrot Feather (Myriophyllum aquatica) is a running, sprawling plant that can easily cover the pond. It can be pruned to maintain a given area. It does provide shade and security to the pond fish. Zone 6-11

Water Hyssop (Bacopa caroliniana) os a trailing plant with pairs of round, bright green leaves adorned with small blue flowers at the leaf axis. While rooted in a submerged pot, this plant can cover an area 4' x 4'. Leaves have a lemon scent when crushed. Zone 7-11

Water Hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes) is one of the free floating plants for the water garden. Beware, these multiply fast and can completely cover a water garden, choking out all other aquatic plants. Zone 9-11

Water Lettuce (Pistia stratioles) is a free floating plant that resembles floating bibb lettuce. These will multiply very fast and need to be maintain as not to completely choke out all other aquatic plants. Zone 9-11
